Welcome to a UTRI Transformation Talk co-organised with the Higher Seminar in Media and Communication Studies, Department of Culture and Media studies.
In this seminar, we welcome PhD Liisa Kääntä from the University of Vaasa, Finland, who will share insights from her research and from the project Decarbon‑Home, of which she is a part.
Liisa Kääntä is a university teacher at the Language Centre and a researcher in communication studies at the University of Vaasa. Her recent work focuses on media discourses and public discussions on climate‑wise housing, sustainability, and responsibility, as well as audio‑visual communication and affectivity in the context of social media journalism.
The seminar draws on ongoing research within the project Decarbon‑Home: Citizens as agents of change in decarbonizing suburban and rural housing (2020–2026). The project brings together environmental, technical, and social science perspectives to better understand the social, communicative, and institutional dimensions of the transition towards low‑carbon housing systems. Particular attention is given to citizens’ preferences, public discourse, policy‑making, and knowledge‑sharing practices related to climate‑wise living.
The seminar is chaired by Professor Annika Egan Sjölander, Media and Communication studies, Department of Culture and Media Studies and held in English.
We offer a light lunch!
A limited number of vegetarian lunches will be available from 11:45 and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The seminar is open to researchers, students, and staff.
