Environmental Change and Oyster Biofilm Recruitment

Dr Wei Xu, Texas A&M University, is focusing on how environmental change affects microbes and marine organism development.

The presence of biofilm on the surfaces of the underwater substrate influences the larval settlement of many marine species, which play essential roles in coastal ecosystems.

This seminar outlines the project to identify the effects of marine environmental stress on the structures of coastal bacterial biofilms and the consequences of the biofilm modification in the larval settlement of oysters, which are economically and ecologically important organisms in the Baltic Sea area.
