Following the log through the industry- A way to use the wood efficiently

You can participate via Zoom or join us on site at Umeå Scool of Architecture (Mazemap), where the speaker will be present. The speak will be moderated by James Brown. Welcome!

Abstract

The sawmill industry handles saw logs, a biological material. The fact that every log is unique means that efficient use of the raw material requires that every log is optimized individually. To follow up the result, it is necessary to trace the logs and boards throughout the process. Something that has not been possible to do until the last years. The presentation will describe how Norra Timber uses high speed tomography, large amounts of data and AI-based algorithms to optimize the productions of wood products. Technology that to a large extent has been developed at LTU wood technology in Skellefteå.
