Abstract
In an era where generative AI is reshaping our digital landscape, this presentation explores how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing dark patterns—subtle design choices which manipulate users into actions they might not otherwise take. From hyper-personalized interfaces to vulnerabilities in real-time that exploit our human tendency to trust, we will examine how generative AI is creating entirely new categories of digital coercion.
As a Fulbright Schuman scholar and graduate student in computer science at Stanford University, Nicole Tong has spent a year in Sweden and the Netherlands investigating emerging regulatory approaches to artificial intelligence in both the EU and US. Drawing on her interdisciplinary background, research, and technical experience, Nicole brings a nuanced perspective to the critical dialogue surrounding responsible AI development and transnational governance.
