Policing in the Digital Society Conference 2027

The Policing in the Digital Society Network is a European network of scholars and practitioners exploring the changing nature of policing in the digital society. The conference is organised jointly by the Department of Law and the Unit of Police Work at Umeå University on behalf of the Policing in the Digital Society Network.

Call for papers

We welcome presentations on themes including, but not limited to:

• Local policing in a global digital context.
• International cooperation in digital policing.
• (Local) adaptation and (global) AI-technologies.
• Jurisdictional issues relating to police methods and investigations.
• Accountability and oversight over international digital policing cooperation.
• European rights frameworks and national policing ambitions.
• Digital sovereignty and foreign dependencies in digital policing.
• Evidence on and from digital platforms.
• Compliance, due process and quality control when using commercial investigative tools.
• Sovereignty, jurisdiction, accountability or ethics in police use of AI.
• Theoretical or philosophical analysis of questions relating to the police, sovereignty and globalisation.
• Other topics relevant to digital policing.

We welcome contributions from both researchers and practitioners interested in digital policing in the European context at any stage in their career. Presentations from PhD students are encouraged.
