LONA days at KBC: Pollinate Northern Sweden

Place Umeå Universitet, Linneaus väg 6, 901 87 Umeå, KBC huset, Glasburen. Enter through the main entrance and walk up the stairs to the middle of the hall. There will be signs to indicate the way.

Information about an environmental restoration project on pollinating insects and their plants in West Bothnia, Sweden.

Background:

  • Pollinating insects are important to all life on Earth.
  • About 80 % of all plants depend on pollinating insects.
  • International and national studies indicate that insects are threatened in different ways, but how is it in Northern Sweden?

Available during the whole event:

  • Photo exhibition
  • Book exhibition
  • Microscopy of insects and plants
  • Creative activities for children, including a competition with price

With limited schedule:

  • Lectures (depends on the amount of participants)
  • Electron microscopy at Umeå Core Facility of Electron
    Microscopy, Friday 30th August, 14-16, note: limited
    places, please register to natuschka.lee@umu.se
  • If the weather permits insect-plant safari in the Umeå
    region – including a visit to honeybee hives at the Umeå
    University campus.

For all ages and education levels. Most of the events will be in Swedish, but there will be English speaking guides.
