Welcome to a reading circle that asks how to think about AI - as technology, collaborator and competitor. We offer a space to doubt, discover and delve into what AI means for knowledge, learning, creativity and academic practice.
The reading circle is open to students, teachers, researchers, PhD-students or other staff members at the university. You don’t need any knowledge of AI or a pre-existing standpoint to participate. Our only expectation is that you are curious and interested in exploring the usefulness and challenges of AI in higher education.
The focus of this circle is the conversation and opportunity of deep reflection together. Through a diverse mix of materials such as podcasts, lectures, academic writing and fiction we want to open conversations about what AI might mean for us. Together, we will reflect on how knowledge is made and cared for, ethics and the relationship between technology and natural resources.
The circle meets on four occasions in parallel groups at Umeå University/SLU Umeå, Malmö University, SLU Ultuna and SLU Alnarp. Each local circle has a maximum of twelve participants. For the third session, all groups will meet online, bringing together participants from the local reading circles. We ask you to commit to being present at all four sessions. If you can’t make it on all occations, please let us know when you register.

The materials will be in English and if we have English-speaking participants this will be our language for the meetings.
