UMA Talks: State of the Art

As part of Umeå School of Architecture's End of Year Exhibition and public event series UMA Talks, we happily invite students, employees and the public to State of the Art: Master Studio Research at Umeå School of Architecture 2023–2024.

A roundtable conversation on the state of the art of the master studio approaches and the work developed by the students during the academic year 2023–2024 at Umeå School of Architecture in the following three studios: Man-made Geographies. From Planetary to Molecular, Global Challenges. Building Back Better and Radical Domesticities: Swedish Housing Standards, headed respectively by Alejandro Haiek Coll, Amalia Katopodis and Daniel Movilla Vega.

The event will begin with short presentations by Alejandro Haiek Coll, Amalia Katopodis and Daniel Movilla Vega talking about their studio approach and the research developed by the students in their master thesis. The presentations are followed by a roundtable discussion with the studio responsibles and the audience, moderated by Cornelia Redeker and Roemer van Toorn.

Participants:
Alejandro Haiek Coll is Lecturer and studio responsible for MA studio 12 at UMA.
Amalia Katopodis is Lecturer and studio responsible for MA Studio studio 10 at UMA.
Daniel Movilla Vega is Associate professor, Director of Doctoral Studies and studio responsible for studio 11 at UMA.
Roemer van Toorn is Professor in Architectural Theory at UMA.
Cornelia Redeker is Professor and Head of department at UMA. 

This event is part of Umeå School of Architecture’s public event series UMA Talks. It is also part of the End of Year Exhibition 2024, open to the public 29 may – 1 june, 2024. The event is held in English. Umeå School of Architecture will document the event through photos and/or filmed material.
