Every autumn, a conference on Cognitive Science (Umeå Cognitive Science Day, UCSD) is organized by the program committees for the Cognitive Science programs at Umeå university, and the Department of Psychology, with inspirational lectures for all students, alumni, faculty and others who are interested in Cognitive Science.

10:05 - 10:50  Floris de Lange - The predictive brain

Dr. Floris de Lange is a professor at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands, and Principal Investigator of the Predictive Brain Lab at the Donders Institute. The Predictive Brain Lab sets out to understand how our brain uses prior knowledge to aid perception and decision-making processes. See more at www.predictivebrainlab.com


11:00 - 11:30 Sandra Hedman – System Developer at Vitec

Sandra Hedman is an alumna from the Cognitive Science program at Umeå University who is now working as a system developer at Vitec vertical software. See more at https://www.vitecsoftware.com/

12:30 - 13:15 Susan Blackmore - The problem of consciousness (Interview)

Dr. Susan Blackmore is a psychologist, lecturer and writer researching consciousness, memes, and anomalous experiences, and Visiting Professor at the University of Plymouth, UK. Her books include The Meme Machine, Zen and the Art of Consciousness, and Consciousness: An Introduction now in its third edition. See more at www.susanblackmore.uk
The interview will be led by consciousness researcher Johan Eriksson, associate professor at Umeå University.

13:30 - 14:00 Andreas Brännström - Interactions between intelligent systems and humans

Andreas Brännström is a doctoral student at the Department of Computing Science, Umeå University. He is studying ways for artificial intelligent systems to understand human behavior in order to improve strategic decision-making in their interactions with humans.


14:15 - 14:45  Emma Christersson - Research in the field of psychedelic science

Emma Christersson has a background in cognitive neuroscience and is now the vice president of Nätverket för Psykedelisk Vetenskap (The Swedish Network for Psychedelic Science) and member of the board of directors for Osmond Foundation.
