Sofia Jeppsson builds on earlier presentations for university teachers and labour unions on how to talk about minorities. It’s an all-too-common assumption that everyone “in here” must be “normal”, and that disabled people, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ people, etc., only exist somewhere “out there”; it is then “our” job to learn sufficient tolerance against “them”.
Jeppsson illustrates the problem with both shocking and milder examples from real life. Next, she discusses how to handle the kind of mistakes anyone can make, and create both safe and open forums for discussion, drawing on experiences from both teaching and writers’ groups.
After the talk, there will be time for questions and discussions.
This event is open for university employees, students, and everyone interested.
