Based on extensive quantitative and qualitative research conducted by the Lávvuo group at Umeå University, the report includes the very first mapping of Sámi women’s exposure to sexual, psychological, and physical violence in Sweden compared to the overall population, and highlights gaps in the societal support structures as well as specific challenges for Sámi women subjected to violence.
The webinar will explore key findings, including the intersections between gender, colonial history and Sámi identity; the disproportionate exposure to violence among LGBTQ Sámi; and the urgent need for improved support and policy reform. Jennie Brandén will also present the report’s five action proposals to the Swedish government and outline priorities for future research.
This session is open to policymakers, professionals working with violence prevention, researchers, and anyone interested in Indigenous health and equity.
