For guests

As a friend or a family member to a graduating student, you can take part in the ceremony and celebration, either via attending the physical event or watch the ceremony live online.

Watch the event online

The ceremony will air live on https://live.umu.se/ and Umeå University's English Facebook page. You are welcome to send your greetings in the live event on Facebook.

Guest sign up to attend in person

Guests, staff and non-graduating students at Umeå University who wish to attend the ceremony in person are required to to sign up below by 3 May at the latest:

Note that this sign-up is NOT for graduating students. Graduating students register themselves through a link sent by e-mail early April.

Frequently asked questions for guests

I didn't get a confirmation when I signed up!

Confirmations will be sent out via email after the deadline on 3 May. If you haven't received one by then, please check to see if it has gotten caught in your spam or junk folder.

Can I bring children to the ceremony?

Yes, children are of course welcome to attend the ceremony. We recommend that you choose seating close to an exit or front row, in case you need to exit the ceremony.

Is there a maximum number of guests that can atttend?

No, but there is limited seating for guests in Aula Nordica, so we recommend to avoid attending in large groups. The ceremony will be live streamed at www.live.umu.se and facebook.

Is there a dresscode for the ceremony?

The Graduation Ceremony is a festive occasion but there is no formal dress code for guests. We recommend that you dress smart casual.

When do I have to arrive to the ceremony?

Please be there in time, preferably between 14:30-14:45 at the very latest, since there can be queues.

The doors to the auditorium open at 14:40 and you need to be seated in the guest section at 14:55.

Will I be able to sit with the student I am celebrating?

No. All students have assigned seats and sit together with their classmates during the ceremony.

Do I have an assigned seat?

No. Guests don't have assigned seats. You can choose where you want to sit freely from the the guest seats. The students are seated together with their classmates.

I can't come to the ceremony. Do I need to inform you?

If you have signed up to come as a guest and aren't able to come, please send us an email before 11 May so that we can order the right amount of food for our guests.

How do I find Aula Nordica?

Can I watch the ceremony anywhere after the event?

Yes. The Graduation Ceremony will be available on Umeå University Facebook page and also on live.umu.se.
