For graduating students

We are looking forward to celebrate our graduating students of International Master’s Programmes.

Graduation Ceremony 2024

Date: Thursday 23 May

Ceremony: 15:00–16:45, approximately

Mingle and photo booth: 16:45–18:15

Location: Aula Nordica, Campus Umeå

The ceremony is followed by mingle and light refreshments.

To attend

Invitation and sign-up

As a graduating student, your department has nominated you for the ceremony.

An e-mail invitation with a link to the sign-up will be sent to all nominated students on 5 April (preliminary date). If you have not received the invitation the first week of April, check your spam or junk mail first and then contact the International Office.

To attend the ceremony, sign up is required.

All students that signed up to the ceremony have been sent an email with more information about the ceremony.

Which students are invited

Invitations are sent to students who are expected to graduate from an International Master's Programme this spring (or will get a degree equivalent to have studied one of the programmes). It is each department that decides who to be nominated/invited.

Nominees can also be students who recently graduated from one of these programmes and did not take part in last year's ceremony.

Congratulatory letter, not diploma

During the ceremony, you will be personally congratulated with a scroll on stage by Vice-Chancellor Hans Adolfsson. After the ceremony you can collect a congratulatory letter with your name on it. Please note that this is not a diploma. Note that your name on the congratulatory letter will be spelt exactly as you spell it in the sign up-form. Please type carefully.

Guests

If you have friends or family that would like to attend the ceremony in person, please ask them to sign up through the form on the guest section. All guests need to sign up for us to be able to calculate how much refreshments for the mingle we need to order.

The ceremony

Clothing

This is a festive and official celebration, so please wear your finest clothes or national costume.

Arrive in good time

There are no tickets for the Ceremony. Enter Aula Nordica to the right of Universum and E-puben. Please be there in time, preferably between 14.30-14.45 at the latest, since there can be queues.

The doors to the auditorium will open at 14.40 and you and your guests must be in your seats at 15.00 latest! If you are not there when the ceremony starts you will not be included in the student roll call nor will you be able to go on stage.

Registration and Seating

Graduating students are seated in the auditorium together with students from the same programme. Please note that graduating students and guests do not sit together. We recommend that guests with children choose a seat close to an exit, in case they need to step out during the ceremony.

The registration takes place inside the auditorium where you sit. Please be there in good time to find your assigned seat that will be marked with your name. Staff will be there to do a check-in. Don’t switch seats with classmates. To easily find your seat, have a look at the Seating Guide, attached to the email sent out before the ceremony.

Instructions for Student Roll Call

  1. Be on time! Take your assigned seat (with your name on it) in the auditorium, by 15.00 latest.
  2. When your programme is called, follow the steward and your fellow students onto the stage.
  3. When your name is called, step forward and receive a congratulatory scroll from Vice-Chancellor Hans Adolfsson. Then cross to the other side of the stage.
  4. When all students in your group have received their congratulatory scroll, follow the steward and your fellow students back to your seat.

Mingle and photo booth

After the ceremony there will be a mingle with an alcohol-free drink and canapés. We also welcome you to take photos in the photo booth. You will have access to the photos a few days later.

Live stream and photographs

If you have guests who cannot attend the Ceremony they can watch it live via live.umu.se or via Umeå University’s English Facebook page. It will also be possible to watch the ceremony on these platforms for 2 weeks after the ceremony.

There will be a photographer taking photos of graduating students receiving a congratulatory scroll on stage by the Vice-Chancellor. You will receive a link to those a few days after the ceremony.

Cancellation

Please inform us by mail to international.alumni@umu.se as soon as possible if you will not attend the ceremony!
