Follow EU state aid rules

EU state aid rules limit the scope for supporting companies with EU funds. Depending on the programme from which the application is made, the necessary description of how the project relates to the state aid rules varies. For example, for applications to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) this must be described. Based on the information in the application, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth then makes the final assessment. Before you start designing the project, contact the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth to discuss possibilities and conditions.

What is state aid?

Four criteria must be met for a measure to constitute state aid:

  • State/public funds are used
  • Companies receive an economic advantage
  • Aid is selective/affects competition
  • Trade between EU Member States is affected

The information above is a summary from the website of the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth. The full text, and more information, can be found here.
