2008 Spring Graduation Ceremony and intriguing lectures at Umeå University

NEWS On Friday 30 May, the general public has the opportunity to listen to six half-hour lectures on subjects ranging from playful physics to the mystery of cancer.

The diverse lectures given in Swedish are held on the eve of the annual graduation ceremony of new doctors and distribution of scientific and educational awards to be held in the Aula Nordica auditorium on Saturday 31 May at 12:00 p.m.

“The doctoral thesis is a significant contribution to the university's mission to search for, identify and disseminate academic knowledge. Additionally, it's also worth celebrating the many years of hard work. The doctoral degree is the first step in one’s academic career. In the coming years Umeå University will be focusing special attention to young and promising researchers through special career grants and funding. Several of the graduating doctors on Saturday will surely be included in this effort,” says Göran Sandberg, vice-chancellor of Umeå University.

This year’s Spring Graduation takes place on Saturday 31 May at noon. A total of 88 new doctors will be conferred and several award recipients will be in attendance to accept their prizes.

The ceremony is open to the general public. Those attending are requested to by seated by 11:55 a.m. at the very latest.

“Talented teachers are vital for a university. Instructors of high competence are of great importance to provide a quality education. Therefore, we are proud to present some of this year's academic award recipients at Umeå University and we are especially pleased to get a glimpse of their work. Umeå University welcomes all to an exciting morning," says Åsa Bergenheim, pro-vice-chancellor for undergraduate and graduate education.
