A new lab for the data driven society

NEWS DIGSUM’s external board member Thomas Kvist will head a new collaborative project, funded by Vinnova, between Region Västerbotten, Umeå University, and a number of local partners. The project, called LADDS (LAb for the Data Driven Society), aims to establish a laboratory for data driven innovation.

The main focus is to use data as the raw material for generating sustainable growth, by supporting economically, ecologically, and socially sustainable cities, and an equally sustainable hinterland. LADDS will include technology/tools, skills, methods and strategies that address commercial as well as non-commercial interests. LADDS will be important to Umeå University and DIGSUM both from a technological perspective, as well as for case studies relating to data and sustainability within the area of digital social research. The lab will be located at Umeå University’s Sliperiet, and has DIGSUM representatives in its advisory board. The project will run, in a first phase, between December 2016 and August 2018.
