NEWS The school attack in Fagersta has highlighted the importance of knowing how to respond in the event of an ongoing deadly attack. All students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the information available on the University’s websites. “While the likelihood of an attack occurring at Umeå University is very low, it is important to know how to respond if something does happen,” says Per Ragnarsson, Assistant University Director and Chair of the Crisis Management Team at Umeå University.
In recent years, the concept of ongoing deadly violence has become more relevant following attacks in Sweden and elsewhere in the world. What these attacks have in common is that one or more perpetrators target a location with the intention of randomly injuring and killing as many people as possible.
The likelihood of an attack involving deadly violence occurring at Umeå University is considered very low. However, the consequences would be extremely serious.

We sincerely hope such incidents will not happen again anywhere. However, it is important that Umeå University has a strong preparedness to deal with serious incidents and that as many people as possible who study and work at the University know how to respond should something happen,” says Per Ragnarsson, Assistant University Director and Chair of the Crisis Management Team at Umeå University.
