Now it's time to apply for exchange studies via the university-wide agreements in the Nordic countries, Germany or the United Kingdom.

- The opportunity exists for you who are a student at Umeå University to live and study in one of our neighboring countries here in Europe. Why not explore Iceland's amazing nature while building on your skills with unique courses? Or explore the north of England during a semester at Keele University? says Alexandra Lindén, international coordinator at the International Office.

Studies in the Nordic countries

Within the Nordplus exchange programme, you can study or do an internship in another Nordic or Baltic country. Nordplus includes universities in Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Opportunity to apply for scholarships and travel grants is available. You who due to disability need special support to be able to participate in the exchange can get extra funds to cover the costs for it.

Nordlys is part of the Nordplus exchange programme and is open to all students at Umeå University to apply, when their own department does not have a Nordplus agreement. The last day to apply for Nordlys is 1 March.

- Nordlys is also perfect for students who do not have the opportunity to go on an exchange for an entire semester. If you can only study abroad for a shorter period, there is the possibility of a shorter exchange, from five working days up to one month, through so-called express mobility.

Study in the rest of Europe

Now you can also apply for an exchange at Würzburg University in Germany and Keele University in the UK, which are open to all students at Umeå University to apply. These are the two university-wide agreements that Umeå University has in Europe, outside the Nordic region. Through your department, there may be other opportunities for exchange throughout Europe.

For both Nordlys and the university-wide places in Germany and the United Kingdom, you must have studied 60 credits at Umeå University before you leave and you must be a registered student at Umeå University at the time of application.

The last day to apply is 1 March for the academic year 2022/2023.

Amalia was on exchange in Iceland

Amalia Winberg is studying the Digital Media Production Programme and did her exchange studies at the University of Iceland in the autumn of 2021. She studied Icelandic and British literature, among other things.

- A big advantage of going on an exchange is that you grow incredibly much as a person! I notice that I am much more confident in myself because I have been able to do this on my own and take myself outside my comfort zone.

For Amalia, it was important to find things to do outside of her studies. Since she has played water polo half her life, she contacted a water polo team in Reykjavík, which she later trained with, and also found fellow students with whom she made many trips and activities.

- The very best thing about going on an exchange is the experiences, the trips and the friends! What I will absolutely never regret with Iceland is what I have experienced outside of school.

Information meeting and drop-in

If you are curious to know more about exchange studies in the Nordic countries or the rest of Europe, the International Office invites you to a digital information event on 16 February during lunchtime. Then you can also meet Amalia who talks about what it was like to study in Iceland.
