Blog about upcoming national election started by Umeå political scientists
NEWS
Four researchers and two PhD students, all political scientists who perform research on coalition politics and governments in parliamentary democracies, started a blog last week about power and politics, in which they analyse aspects of the Swedish election campaign.
“The blog is partly an element of our effort to reach out with some of the research conducted,” says Johan Hellström, associate professor at Umeå University. “The research grants that we received have enabled very exciting research and research collaborations. But we also want to try to reach a wider audience.”
Torbjörn Bergman, professor at Umeå University and Södertörn University says that they also started the blog “we believe that the analysis of Swedish politics is too often dominated by people who do not actually study the issues that they comment on and that most comments are not very apt at placing Swedish politics in a comparative and cross-national context”
A general election will be held in Sweden on 14 September 2014 to the national Swedish Riksdag, as well as to all 21 county councils and 290 municipal assemblies.
The other researchers who will be blogging are Hanna Bäck, associate professor at Lund University, and Ann-Cathrine Jungar, associate professor at Södertörn University. Also participating are Anders Backlund, PhD student at Södertörn University and Daniel Walther, PhD student at Umeå University.
The main language of the blog is Swedish, but some posts are in English.
