Checklist to support your research

NEWS A fully reworked “checklist” for research projects has been added to the University’s relatively new website for researchers. The checklist gathers practical advice on what you can, should and sometimes must do to plan, conduct and finalise your research.

There is a lot you need to know when running a research project. If you get a good overview of what needs to be done already at the start of your planning phase, you reduce the risk of missing something important. Checklist for research projects is hence divided into topics that will help you find the information you need and guide you to the support functions available at the University. A potentially good way of using the checklist is to go through each part early in the project – and then return when they become relevant again.

The checklist is divided into these topics:

  • Complying with requirements
  • Setting the stage for your research
  • Securely managing your information
  • Managing personal data and research participants
  • Signing agreements and research collaborations
  • Publishing and communicating your research
  • Concluding your research.

One part of the checklist concerning lab security and the handling of hazardous substances is still being processed. Nevertheless, you still get some tips on where to turn in that area too.

You have a lot to keep in mind

Following the rules applicable to research is an important part of good research practice, which in turn is important for the reliability and quality of research.

“There’s lots a researcher have to keep in mind, and particularly the legal issues are often complicated. We hope the checklist will help you by highlighting important aspects that you need to do or know about. In that way, you can feel more confident yourself and build public confidence in your research,” says Elisabeth Mach, Legal Officer, who participated in developing the checklist for research project.
