Chris Heister, the County Governor of Västerbotten, has been recommended to be a new member of the Umeå University Board of Directors. Heister will take over the seat of Daniel Sachs, CEO of Proventus AB, who has requested to leave the board on his own account.
On 30 April 2010, the period of appointment expires for the chairperson and seven members selected by the government for the University Board. The government is expecting recommendations of new members before the next mandate period that runs from 1 May 2010 through 30 April 2013.
All government appointed board members have notified the Vice-Chancellor that they will be available to continue for the next mandate period, with the exception of the Chief Executive Officer of Proventus AB, Daniel Sachs.
“It is extremely positive that the board's continuity is preserved, and that the Governor can offer new qualities to the board with her knowledge of the county, interest in education and political experience. The decision to appoint Chris Heister has also been very well received by the faculty leaders, students, labour unions and external consulting teams,” says Göran Sandberg, Umeå University Vice-Chancellor.
In addition to Chris Heister, sitting members of the University Board are recommended to continue:- Birgitta Johansson-Hedberg, Chairperson of University Board- Kjell Asplund, former Director General of the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare- Eva Bonnier, Publisher- Professor Sigbrit Franke, former Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University- Göran Johnsson, former Chairman of IF Metal- Peter Kopelman, former GM of Microsoft Sweden - Professor Staffan Normark
The Vice-Chancellor is also a member of the University Board. Furthermore, Umeå University has appointed three teacher representatives that have been elected, as well as three students.
