Cultural Entrepreneurs on tour

NEWS The European tour Caught by Umeå is coming to London, Amsterdam and Paris soon and students Kristin Gravvik Hånes, Lovisa Dahlqvist and Olivia Sandberg are coming along on the trip. All three are studying at the Cultural Entrepreneurship programme at Umeå University.

The first stop for the students is London. Olivia Sandberg is going to promote Umeå as a club city and with her to help with that is local club Kapellet (“the Chapel”) that are going to play Umeå related music.

– Getting the chance to participate in the tour and in a way represent Umeå University is a fun and honourable mission, it will be interesting to see what all the planning will result in. I think and hope that it provides a good opportunity for us to putting knowledge into practice, to network internationally and to see and learn new things, says Olivia Sandberg.

Kapellet will be playing at the portable, cube-shaped event house (inspired by ice) that will be built up in Bernie Spain Gardens, South Bank. They will also perform a set at Notting Hill Arts Club in North London. The tour stops in London September 19 to 21.

To the tour stop in Amsterdam that takes place September 26 to 28 Kristin Gravvik Hånes brings the “indie fusion” act Queenfish & other tales (Ewa Wikström and Elin Söderberg, Umeå). Thursday evening the band will play at CC Muziek Café and Friday night in the event hub that has been relocated to Museumsplein in central Amsterdam.

– Being able to go on the CbU tour feels very exciting! It’s not often you get the chance to work internationally, travel and network, Kristin Gravvik Hånes explains.

Last but not least Lovisa Dahlqvist is travelling to Paris with the music duo Systraskap (“Sisterhood”) that will perform a stripped-down gig at the event house. Caught by Umeå will be in Paris October 3 to 5. Two other performances by Systraskap that is not yet booked will also be held.

– I think it will be very exciting and fun to go on the tour. I’m going to Paris and I’ve never been there before. I think it will be fun to see how such a large project takes shape in reality, on location and actually be there and work with it, says Lovisa Dahlqvist.

Caught by Umeå is a collaboration between Umeå2014/Umeå municipality, Visit Sweden and Umeå University among others. The purpose of the tour is to generate interest in Umeå and the northern room.
