Decision on a new Umeå School of Business and Economics

The University Board emphasised the importance of finding ways for further expansion so that even more subjects and departments can be affiliated with Umeå School of Business and Economics.
In addition, the school has also been given a new English name (previously Umeå School of Business).
"We are very pleased that the University Board has taken the decision," says Lena Gustafsson, Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University. "We will now continue our development which will initially focus on the recruitment of a new rector for the school."
Current rector of Umeå School of Business and Economics, Lars Lindberg, and board chairperson Curt Källströmer will retain their positions for the remainder of the calendar year in accorandance with their existing appointments. They have both indicated earlier this year that they do not intend to candidate for a continuation in the new Umeå School of Business and Economics in 2012.
"I am very grateful that Lars Lindbergh and Curt Källströmer will carry out their duties, thereby ensuring continuity and a smooth transition to the new Umeå School of Business and Economics," continues Lena Gustafsson. "I already want to thank both for their strong efforts and dedication to the school, and I am fully confident that they work diligently for the remainder of their mandate periods.”
The new school will comprise of the Umeå School of Business, Department of Economics and Department of Statistics, according to the decision by the University Board. The decision foresees the formation of a new, unified institution with effect from 1 January 2012.
