Dr. Robert Parkes, University of Newcastle, is Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies April 2nd to May 31st

NEWS Dr. Robert Parkes is Senior Lecturer in Curriculum Studies at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He visits the Department of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies as a Visiting Research Fellow within the research group History of Education from April 2nd to May 31st this year. During his stay Parkes work will include teaching the PhD Course “Historiedidaktik” (History didactics).

Dr. Robert Parkes is Senior Lecturer in Curriculum Studies at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He teaches courses in History, Social and Screen Media Education, and coordinates the History Education specialisation in the Master of Educational Studies program. Robert's research interests center on theorizing a post-critical approach to History Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Didaktiks, including explorations of: (1) History Curriculum as postmodern, post-colonial, and political text; (2) History Didaktiks (specifically, the professional, pedagogical, hermeneutic, and meta-historical literacies required to teach History in a socially-critical way); and (3) Contemporary and historical curriculum theories, philosophies, and politics. Parkes has also served as Deputy Head of School, Teaching & Learning, and provided leadership in the most wide-ranging and substantial undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum renewal projects within the School of Education for over a decade.

Parkes visits the Department of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies as a Visiting Research Fellow within the research group History of education from April 2nd to May 31st this year. During his stay he will teach the PhD Course “Historiedidaktik” (History didactics). He has also presented his research at a seminar in history and education with the title ”Rival Narratives as an Enduring Problem for History Education: An Australian Perspective”.
