NEWS On 23–26 November, Umeå University and four other Swedish Higher Education Institutions participated in activities in Seoul, South Korea, to market Sweden as a study destination. The activities included seminars, an education fair and a performance by the Swedish pop band Caotico.
"We have previously been involved in various events in South Korea and presented our study opportunities. This time, we also want to highlight that, apart from studies and creative learning environments, the University and Umeå have more to offer; what altogether contributes to an Umeå experience", says project manager Wasif Ali, International Office.
Within the framework of Culture on Campus, Communications Office, a Culture Trade was organised with a performance by the pop band Caotico. As the name reveals, the purpose of Culture Trade is to trade culture with other countries.
"It was great to see the response from the Korean crowd", says Jonas Ericson, project manager of Culture on Campus. "Caoticos sound with super-strong melodies and a beat that makes people want to dance, really worked."
In 2014, Umeå University along with other Swedish Higher Education Institutions, entered into a project to recruit more students from South Korea. The aim for the academic year 2018/2019 is to recruit 300 students to Swedish education. In the long term, the aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of Sweden as a study destination among South Korean students who want to study abroad.
Oragnisations partaking in the project, in addition to Umeå University, are Chalmers University of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, Uppsala University in collaboration with the Swedish Institute and the Embassy of Sweden in South Korea.
