The Swedish Research Council has granted a total of SEK 5.8 million for research around cut finite element methods.
Mats G Larson has received a project grant from the Swedish Research Council. The project has the title "Cut finite element methods for partial differential equations on moving domains". André Massing has received an establishment grant for the project "Cut discontinuous Galerkin methods for complex multidimensional multiphysics flows". Both projects run over four years.
With the cut finite element method, partial differential equations can be solved on moving geometry domains without the need for frequent re-meshing. This enables advanced simulation of, for example, systems with both fluids and moving mechanical parts as well as topology optimization for components produced with additive manufacturing.
