Internationally Renowned Professor at the Department of Applied Educational Science and the Educational Measurement unit

NEWS Professor Gavin T. L. Brown is an internationally renowned scholar with expertise in educational assessment and measurement. From the autumn semester of 2016, he is affiliated Professor at the Department of Applied Educational Science, primarily tied to the Educational Measurement unit of the department.

Professor Brown’s main position is at University of Auckland, New Zealand, where he holds a position as Director of the Quantitative Data Analysis and Research Unit in the Faculty of Education & Social Work.

His area of expertise is broad, although his research interests revolve around valid uses of assessment methods to serve the improvement of teaching and learning. His specialises in cross-cultural research into the psychological and social impact of assessment upon teachers and students.He has a large number of publications and has recently edited the book Handbook of Human and Social Conditions in Assessment (Routledge, 2016)

Professor Brown has visited Umeå University and the department of Applied Educational Science at several occations in the past, collaborating with researchers and giving seminars and lectures. We are now very happy to have him on our team, formally tied to the department as affiliated professor! 
On September 28th it is possible to meet Professor Gavin T. L. Brown in person. He will give a seminar called Reconsidering assesment for learning: Is it just good teaching? Room: N410. Time: 13:15-15:00.
