NEWS "The Swedish Smorgasbord - all the Original Recipes in Modern Style" was awarded in two categories in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards Sweden 2009. The cookbook co-authored by Umeå University guest professor Gert Klötzke is therefore qualified to compete in the "Best in the World" competition in Paris on February 11th.

Gert Kötzke, guest professor at Umeå University’s School of Restaurant and Culinary Arts, has together with this year’s Nobel Prize awards banquet chef, Niclas Wahlström, have published a cookbook on the subject of the Swedish smorgasbord. They have renewed the traditional Swedish buffet by presenting all the different items in toothsome serving portions. The book won in two classes, “Best Innovative Food Book” and “Best Chef Book”, in the Swedish competition and will represent the nation at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Paris, France on 11 February 2010.

“The book is the largest and most comprehensive cookbook ever produced about the smorgasbord,” explains Gert Klötzke.

"The Swedish Smorgasbord" includes more than 220 recipes, spanning all the way from the classic “small appetizers” and a multitude of pickled herring to completely new small dishes and exciting vegetarian touches. The original Swedish title of the book is “Smörgåsbord – Alla klassiska recept i modern tappning.”
