Maud Olofsson to hand out global health research scholarships

NEWS Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden, leader of the Centre Party and Minister for Enterprise and Energy, Maud Olofsson, and Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University, Göran Sandberg will distribute the 2007 scholarships and donation from the Centre Party for global health research collaboration. This will occur in accordance with the autumn ceremony honouring newly installed professors and honorary doctors at the university on Saturday 20 October

The distribution of the Global Health Research Scholarships will take place at 12:30 pm in the Humanities Building, Lecture Hall F.

The scholarships, which are being awarded for the first time, are given to eight international Ph.D. candidates and five master’s degree students at the Umeå International School of Public Health (UISPH)

The donation from the Centre Party for global research collaboration aims to support and develop teamwork between Swedish research institutes and research institutes at universities in developing countries. Umeå University and its International School of Public Health obtained 10 million kronor (€1 million) in 2006 as the first recipient of the donation.

The media is welcome to attend the scholarship distribution. Two of the Ph.D. candidates and five master’s degree students will present to accept the scholarships from Maud Olofsson and Göran Sandberg.

Umeå International School of Public Health is the only complete institution of its kind in Sweden and has been offering an International Master in Public Health since 1991.
