New coordinator to ensure doctoral students receive a rewarding education

NEWS Linda Bresäter is a new coordinator at the Industrial Doctoral School. She will be responsible for planning, developing and following up on courses and workshops, with the doctoral students’ needs in focus.

“The most important thing is that the doctoral students have the best possible experience of the course package and of the Industrial Doctoral School. The course content should feel relevant, and they should gain a lot from being part of the doctoral student group,” she says.

Linda Bresäter will work in close collaboration with the director, another coordinator, and a communications officer.

Alongside her role at the Industrial Doctoral School, she also works as a collaboration coordinator at the Department of Computing Science. There, she manages contacts between students, researchers and industry in various course collaborations, such as the Co-op programme. Her background is in service design, with experience both as an entrepreneur and from Umeå Institute of Design.

The university’s collaboration with businesses and organisations is extremely important.

Applying for the coordinator position at the Industrial Doctoral School felt like a natural step.

“I think the university’s collaboration with businesses and organisations is extremely important. I believe in the Industrial Doctoral School as a model – both industry and the university gain a lot from working together; you simply learn from each other. And it’s fantastic that the cost of a doctoral student can be shared,” says Linda Bresäter.

She also highlights the strengths of the Industrial Doctoral School in offering established structures for collaboration, and in bringing together doctoral students from many different disciplines who take the course package together – something that provides a unique opportunity to exchange experiences and gain new perspectives.

What are you most looking forward to?

“I enjoy learning and trying new things. I’m excited about working with the development and follow-up of the courses based on doctoral students’ feedback and goals – something we will be focusing on in particular at the Industrial Doctoral School moving forward.”
