New course: Philosophy of Education

NEWS The Department of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies at Umeå University welcomes applicants within the EU/EEA and Switzerland with an educational background in the fields of Philosophy or Education. The course will be taught in English during the spring semester of 2014 and lectures and seminars will be held online. Apply no later than October 15th.

The philosophy of education touches on several core areas of philosophy. This course will focus primarily but not exclusively on the political aspects of education. Topics covered include the use of grades, the privatization of schools, equality in education, school choice, the content of the curriculum and parents' influence over their children's education.

The 7.5-credit course is open for applicants with 90 ECTS courses in philosophy or education, or a Bachelors degree (180 ECTS), or the equivalent. The course will be taught in English in 50% tempo and is internet based.
