New exchange agreements with two South Korean universities

NEWS Umeå University has signed exchange agreements with two prominent universities in South Korea - Hanyang University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. South Korea is, as well as India, a country that is a priority market for Umeå University.

"South Korea is a fantastic country for student exchange, and students who have been there are very satisfied," says Pro-Vice-Chancellor Anders Fällström, who visited the two South Korean universities in March this year. "Seoul is a safe city with exciting Asian culture, and it is easy to communicate in English. The universities we have exchanges with are top-ranked and offer very good courses with a wide range of given in English."

Hanyang University (in photo above) received university status in 1939 and is ranked 3rd of Korea's universities. They have 37,000 students, 22 colleges and 16 graduate schools. Hanyang University offers approximately 1000 courses in English, which is about 35 percent of the full range of courses.

The university has two campuses - one in downtown Seoul and another about 60 km outside the city in Ansan, including engineering and design applications. The university also offers medical training. There is an existing departmental agreement between Hanyang University and the Department of Physics at Umeå University.

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies was founded in 1954 is recognized as the best institution for foreign language education and internationalization in South Korea. Their College of Occidental Languages includes Department of Scandinavian Languages.

The University has over 20,000 students and two campuses - one in central Seoul and the other in Yongin, about a 90 minute train ride from the city.
