On the 100th anniversary of Virginia Woolf's diary entry from 1915, "The future is dark and That is the best thing the future can be, I think ." 13 artists from the Art Academy at Umeå University, open an exhibition with the same name.
Vernissage will take place the 17 January at 12.00-18.00
In a heavily dystopian time, during the beginning of World War I, Virginia Woolf wrote in her diary a tribute to darkness. Although the darkness frightens most people, it is a place with opportunity for love, where views fuse together, enchanted, awakened and liberated.
Sagateatern, whose history lives in its walls, stands in total contrast to a conventional exhibition space of white walls, and we choose to see the potential in this. Inspired by Woolf's text, we want to go into the darkness with open eyes . Woolf's quote has individually been interpreted in different forms.
Everything from movies, painting, drawing, installation and objects will be displayed throughout the exhibition space. In a time where art and culture have to stand back in favor of the interest of profit increase, we choose to exhibit at Sagateatern.
In about a half year from now Sagateatern must move, and we are some of the cultural practitioners who choose to work in a building which has hosted culture in Umeå since 1953.
The show will be open 18/1 and 21-24/1 between 12.00-16.00
