Opening of Umeå University Library’s new circulation hall and guest corner on Friday 9 May

The opening of the circulation hall and guest corner will be we will celebrated with Sámi yoik singing, choir singing, ceremonial ribbon clipping and speeches by such notaries as the city counsellor of Umeå, Marie-Louise Rönnmark and university vice-chancellor Göran Sandberg.
“It feels really great that we now have an excellent meeting place for our students, says Gunni Öberg, Director of the University Library. “The new hall works together with the Lindell Hall and café and creates a natural place of gathering.”
The opening ceremony begins at 1:00 pm with speeches by vice-chancellor Göran Sandberg, chief librarian Kjell Jonsson, premises planner Lennart Arnesson and municipal commissioner Marie-Louise Rönnmark.
The programme that continues up to 3:00 pm also includes a traditional ribbon cutting with fanfare and native Sámi yoik singing by Krister Stoor, a performance by the chamber choir Sångkraft and mingle music by the house orchestra Magic Connection.
The library staff will guide visitors around the new premises and give a demonstration of the new self-service return unit. The guest corner in the new circulation hall is equipped with municipal terminals - providing quick access to information and service at Umeå municipality – similar to the one at the City library. But the terminal at the University Library will provide users with access to information from Student Health, CSN (Swedish financial aid for studies), the Swedish Tax Agency and Swedish Public Employment Service.
The municipal terminals take part in Umeå Municipality’s effort to be a 24-hour access agency. The terminals will give users at the University Library the opportunity to obtain information about Umeå Municipality, partake in societal development, leave feedback and gain quick and easy access to information and service.
