Orientation Course and Welcome Fair for New Students – Autumn 2009
NEWS
During 25 – 28 August, a broad schedule of events for new arriving exchange and international students has been arranged by the International Office. New students are encouraged to attend and become more acquainted with life in Umeå and at the University.
Moving to a new country with an unfamiliar language, culture and customs can certainly be a challenge for the hundreds of new students from around the globe that study at Umeå University. Therefore, a four day Orientation Course has been organised consisting of a series of lectures and activities that are designed to make arrival much easier. The course also offers a great opportunity for new students to meet new people and make new friends on campus.
The Orientation Course schedule will be available on the university website in early August. Students can expect to obtain important information from their departments and the Swedish system of study, an introduction to the buddy programme, campus fitness centre, competitions and much more. Since there can always be last minute changes in the schedule, students are advised to pick up a new schedule from the International Office after arriving in Umeå.
One week later, on Thursday 3 September, all students are cordially invited to attend the Welcome Fair for new students at Umeå University. The fair will be open from 10 am to 3 pm in the large Universum complex in the heart of Campus Umeå. Last year, an estimated 6000 students attend the Welcome Fair.
Dozens of exhibitors – closely connected with student life – will be displaying their activities, including student unions, cultural and sports associations, university and municipal branches, clubs, societies and public authorities. Additionally, contests, musical performances and other surprises can be expected.
The Welcome Fair programme with specific details will be updated online sometime in August.
