How to appoint a Pro-Vice-Chancellor
According to the Higher Education Ordinance, the Vice-Chancellor must have a deputy, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, who serves in the Vice-Chancellor's place when he or she is not on duty. The Vice-Chancellor's deputy also otherwise replaces the Vice-Chancellor to the extent determined by the Vice-Chancellor.The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, who is part of the University Management, works closely with the Vice-Chancellor, other University management and faculty managements and has a central role in the University's management and development.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor is appointed by decision of the University Board for a maximum period of six years on a proposal from the Vice-Chancellor. The assignment may be renewed. The term of office should normally follow the Vice-Chancellor's term of office. Before appointing a Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the University Board shall hear the teachers, other employees and students in the manner decided by the Board.
