About the U.S. Embassy Road Show in Umeå - part of President Obama's call to engagement

On Thursday morning, November 18th, a FlexFuel Chevy Avalanche truck will roll into Umeå bringing with it a little piece of the United States, a mobile version of the U.S. Embassy. For the first time, the U.S. Embassy will be hitting the road, and Umeå is their very first stop.

The Road Show comes as part of the Embassy’s response to President Barack Obama’s call to engagement. “The way we look at it,” said Ambassador Matthew Barzun, “is that there are a lot of people throughout the country that would be interested in engaging with the Embassy, but that can’t always come to Stockholm. We figured that if they can’t come to Stockholm, we should take the Embassy to them.”The day will start with a open forum for invited guests on the importance of fusing Culture with Engagement. This will branch into site visits at Umeå University, local companies, and government offices with a final farewell in the evening to thank everyone who participated throughout the day.
Additionally, there will be a temporary U.S. Embassy constructed within Folkets Hus in central Umeå. Here, residents of Umeå can come throughout the day in order to receive limited Consular Services and tips for studying in the United States.
