Research at USBE nominated for Globe Award

NEWS The Sustainable Investment Research Platform, Sirp, at Umeå School of Business, Umeå University, has been nominated to the Globe Award for its sustainability research in Corporate Social Responsibility.

There isn’t any motivation for the nomination, but Sirp has been studying the yields of a number of American companies and has come to the conclusion that investing in companies with high environmental performance is just as good as investing in companies that are not as environmentally responsible. This means that corporate commitment to the environment is not connected to financial losses. Professor Lars G. Hassel, program director of the Mistra-financed Sirp is pleased that their work has received some public recognition.

– Just being nominated is an achievement, especially as we only have been working on this project for a little more than one year, says Lars G. Hassel. With the attention the hope to win larger acknowledgment both nationally and internationally, which in turn will lead the way towards an increased support for sustainability work.

Behind the award and the nomination is Globe Forum, an organization with a global network for bringing organizations closer together. The Global Award is meant to acknowledge innovation and ideas within the CSR field promoting sustainable development and global economy. In total there are five nominees for the award. The ceremony is held at Berns, Stockholm on April 19.
