Students’ health in focus – premiere of Health Day on campus

On Monday 7 April, the premier of Health Day on campus will take place at Umeå University. Students will be offered a wide-selection of health promotions and preventative activities. The day is inclined for all students, including international, and is therefore a bilingual event.
“The students can listen to interesting lectures, partake in “try it out” activities and browse around the many display areas,” says Jeanette Lundberg, public health worker at the Student Health unit at Umeå University. “Our hope is that the students will be stimulated and inspired to make decisions that promote their own health.”
This year, Health Day on campus takes place on the same day as the World Health Organization’s (WHO) world health day. This will be noted at the opening ceremony at the Aula Nordica auditorium, where Professor Stig Wall from the unit of Epidemiology and Public Health Sciences will speak. The organisers of the Health Day are the Student Health unit, the student chaplains and student unions.
In the Universum Building on campus their will be exhibitions on display from various areas, companies, associations and organisations Dietetics students from the Department of Food and Nutrition, will be available to answer questions involving diet and nutrition.
Some other examples of activities:
Speed Dating for students who seek more friends on campus, arranged by Kärleksakuten.
Students that wish to develop their ability to control their own lives, coached by lecturer Linda Nederberg.
Sing for life – a chance to try choral singing under the direction of Ange Turell.
Health Day concludes in the Universum restaurant with food and entertainment by the local performing artist Carolina Miskovksy. The organisers are the working group “Students’ health and drug prevention” with Örjan Grönlund as leader. The day begins at 8:45 am and concludes at approximately 8:00 pm.
