Sujata Patel is back

NEWS Sujata Patel is the 2021 Kerstin Hesselgren Visiting Professor in the Department of Sociology at Umeå University. Most recently, she was a Distinguished Professor at Savitribai Phule Pune University and a National Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic her visit to Sweden was delayed and in 2021, she spent the first half of her professorship working remotely from her home in India. This week Sujata Patel is here in Umeå in person.

While Umeå University is her host, the successful VR application included three other partner universities: Linköping University (REMESO), Lund University (SASNET), and Uppsala University (Sociology). Thus, this spring she has spent time at all of the partner universities, giving seminars and meeting with graduate students and staff.

While she will only be in Umeå for 1 week this spring, she will soon return to Sweden for the last two months of her visiting professorship. When she returns, she will reside in Umeå and her time will be split between the Department of Sociology and UCGS, Umeå Centre for Gender Studies.
