The Arctic Five, consisting of Luleå University of Technology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Umeå University, University of Lapland and University of Oulu, aims to promote and share knowledge, education and innovation for the development of a sustainable Arctic.

The idea is to use cross-border collaboration as a tool to achieve groundbreaking research that benefits not only the Arctic region, but all those who are affected in various ways by changes in the Arctic. One step in this is the call for chairs that the Arctic Five announced today.

New call

The chairs initiative is a new format for collaboration within the Arctic Five network, and aims to generate collaborations in research and education. The overarching aim is to improve the success of the Arctic Five universities in securing external funding, and in this way, help meet the goal in finding research-based solutions to joint problems facing our northern societies.

The chairs initiative enables scholars at the universities to build research and/or education collaborations with other universities in the network, whilst providing support for developing joint projects, as well as assistance with applying for larger funding calls. They are expected to actively participate in the Arctic Five, both at Umeå University and beyond.

All disciplines are welcome

Researchers from all disciplines or fields of study at the Arctic Five universities are encouraged to apply. The assignment is for two years, with a guaranteed time-allocation of at least 20%, and an annual budget of € 10,000.
