The library hosts a publishing platform

NEWS Umeå University Library hosts a publishing platform for scholarly journals that charge neither readers nor authors any fees. Five journals are currently published on the platform, covering educational history, global health, Arctic research and law.

Since 2014, Umeå University Library has hosted Open Journal Systems (OJS), a publishing platform through which editorial teams affiliated with Umeå University can publish open-access journals according to a Diamond Open Access model. The first journal to join the platform was Nordic Journal of Educational History, which is now entering its thirteenth year and is indexed in both Scopus and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Four additional journals have since been added to the platform.

Nordic Journal of Educational History

An interdisciplinary and international journal that publishes research in the field of educational history. Its primary focus is on research concerning the Nordic countries, but the editorial team welcomes contributions exploring educational history from all parts of the world.

Journal of Northern Studies

The journal with the longest history among those hosted on the platform. It has been published since 2007 and has, in recent years, been based on the University Library’s publishing platform. Its focus is on human activity in northern environments, examining how people and human culture influence, and are influenced by, their surroundings.

Journal of Community Systems for Health

Launched in 2024, this is the newest addition to the publishing platform. The journal focuses on research into community systems that promote health in the broadest sense, as well as research on community systems established specifically to support healthcare. The editorial team seeks to help reshape scholarly publishing practices and return control of the publishing process to the research community.
