The Library's research support moves to new website
NEWS
Umeå University has launched a new website to bring together information and support that is important for those who conduct research. One change that is taking place following the launch is that the library's information aimed at researchers is moving to the new website.
A new website has been launched at Umeå University with the intention of making it easier for researchers to find relevant information and support. The new website for researchers brings together content from several different units within the University, including the University Library, the Legal Affairs Office and the Research Support and Collaboration Office.
Information for researchers in one place
The purpose of the website for researchers is to make it easier for researchers to navigate the University's resources and find the right support in different parts of the research process; from funding and legal issues to publication support and collaboration opportunities.
“In the past, researchers have had to rely on who provides different parts of research support and look for information in several different places. It has been difficult to get an overview and has required a lot of prior knowledge from the user. Now we have gathered much of the information together and structured it based on the subject and the researchers' needs - not based on which organisation provides the support,” says Josefin Rönngren, web editor at Umeå University Library.
Information on publishing and research data is moving
Many of the library's resources are aimed at students as well as researchers, such as the library's books and databases. It is only the parts that are exclusively aimed at researchers that have moved to the website for researchers. Josefin explains:

“The library's information on publishing support and research data management has moved, as well as information on the possibility to order search consultations from the library. So researchers looking for information on, for example, DiVA, data management plans or open access publishing agreements will have to visit the website for researchers.”
The search function on the university's website, umu.se, includes both content from the library website and the new website for researchers. This makes it a useful tool for finding the right information quickly. It is also possible to use search engines such as Google since all content is publicly available.
Cross-functional collaboration
The work of developing the website for researchers has been done in collaboration between several units at the University. Employees from the Communications Office, Umeå University Library and the Research Support and Collaboration Office have been part of the project group, which together has structured the content and built up the various parts of the website. The project group has in turn collaborated with representatives from other parts of the University's operations.
“It feels great that we have been able to gather information about research data management in one place. This is an area that has previously been difficult to navigate, as the library, legal staff, the archive and IT Office all provide support to researchers regarding research data,” says Josefin.
