The renovation of the library enters its next phase
NEWS
The Study Hall at the University Library is buzzing with activity as a total of 280,000 books are being moved from the shelves this autumn. Each book is being given a new temporary location while the premises are being renovated. In 2027, the University Library will have modern premises adapted to future needs.
Many shelves are now looking rather empty as preparations are in full swing for a complete renovation of the Study Hall. Krister Fredriksson, relocation coordinator at the Property Management Office, reports that the relocation of books is progressing well: - We will also remove the empty bookshelves and make room for temporary study spaces instead, as we know that this is in high demand among students, he explains.
Condensed version of the library
During the autumn, the number of study spaces in the Study Hall will remain unchanged, even though parts of the premises will be emptied and closed off. In early 2026, renovation of the Study Hall and entrance area will begin, closing them to visitors. At the same time, the Learning Space will open, which will consist of a condensed version of the library during the renovation period, as well as study spaces and course literature. On the upper floor, the renovated quiet study area will reopen.
Prominent meeting place
Malin Josefsson, Deputy Library Director, is looking forward to the newly renovated library: - When the library reopens in 2027, our renovated premises will not only be fresh and modern, but also even more functional. The number of bookable resource rooms will increase from three to six, and the Study Hall will become an even more prominent meeting place with the addition of the new social staircase. I am particularly looking forward to offering our visitors the opportunity to use the courtyard to get some fresh air during a break from their studies, as it has undergone a veritable transformation and has been opened up from the lending hall.
