NEWS For the third year in a row, Umeå Institute of Design (UID) at Umeå University has been ranked as the best design school in Europe, North and South America by the organization Red Dot.
“We are thrilled to be ranked #1 once again," says Maria Göransdotter, head of department at Umeå Institute of Design. "At UID, students and staff from all parts of the world engage together in developing the field of design, aiming to contribute to creating a more positive future for people. It is fantastic, and we are very proud, to see our students’ visions recognized in this way by the red dot jury of global experts in the field.”
Highly reputable schools like the American Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and French ENSCI- Les Ateliers are found on second and third place in the Red Dot listings. Being placed on top shows that the Umeå Institute of Design is well established as well as innovative, and can compete with international design schools both older and bigger in terms of number of students and staff.
Red Dot is one of the oldest and most distinguished design organizations in the world. Each year Red Dot ranks design educations all over Europe, North- and South America, as well as doing a separate ranking for Asia. The rankings are based on the results of the last five years worth of the Red Dot Design Concept Award. Which students who will receive this year’s awards will be presented on 26 September.
