Umeå Plant Science Centre professor receives Linné award in botany

NEWS Professor Stefan Jansson has been named the Linné award recipient in botany at the annual meeting of the "Kunglig Fysiografiska Sällskapet" on 2 December. The prize committee honours Stefan Jansson as "undoubtedly one of Sweden's most prominent (and also most cited) plant physiologists.

Stefan Jansson has also published popular science articles and
and has in recent years been very active in the GMO debate." Furthermore the committee mentions in it's laudatio that Stefan Jansson has internationally a strong research position especially in the area of regulation of photosynthetic light harvesting in plants. Especially Jansson's field studies are of very high-quality and internationally widely recognised.

His reserch group works on many aspects of plant biology. Populus genomics The ultimate goal of this project is to learn how to find the genetic differences that make aspens (Populus tremula) different from each other. Autumn senescence Using these tools, we study how aspens acclimate and adapt to the environment. Photosynthetic light harvesting We are studying the large family of LHC proteins using biochemical, reverse and forward genetic and molecular biological approaches.
