NEWS The Swedish championship in business was held this weekend, and the 2009 winning team were a threesome from Umeå University's School of Business (USBE).

“It feels great! For us, it is a proof that we have done well in our studies, and can compete with Sweden's top students,” said the winning team in a joint statement.

The team consisted of Mauritz Börjeson, Anna Andersdotter and Andreas Pettersson, and all three are in the International Business Programme at Umeå University. The proud champions received a prize check worth 30,000 Swedish kronor on Sunday evening. were on Sunday evening to receive a price check on 30 000 SEK and a large trophy by the competition’s main sponsors Grant Thornton, SEB and Civilekonomerna. “For some of the prize money, we will do something fun together, but the money will also be used towards personal projects. The trophy will be here in Umeå for a year, and hopefully new talent will be able defend the title in the next championship,” said the team.
This year’s championship title was pleasant news as only one time before, in 1988, has a team from Umeå won the Swedish competition. Their was high tension during the entire finale, and only by the last of twenty questions was the victory ensured when the Umeå team knocked the Stockholm School of Economics and Business School in Gothenburg.

The Swedish championships in business is organised each year, and targeted to the best business and students in the country. Each college or university with business programmes may participate with a team to compete for the title. Competition questions measure knowledge in all areas of business, such as business administration, economics, statistics, trade law, exchange knowledge, economic history and economic geography.
