Umeå University climbs in THE World University Rankings

Umeå University has improved its position in this year’s Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE). The University is ranked in the 351–375 band, compared with the 401–500 band last year. This year’s position is its best since 2019.
The results of the 2027 THE World University Rankings were published on 30 September. This year’s ranking includes 2,297 higher education institutions, compared with 2,191 the previous year.
Umeå University is ranked in the 351–375 band. Its calculated exact position is 363. Last year, the University was ranked 403rd.
The improvement also gives Umeå University its best position in the THE World University Rankings since 2019, when it was ranked 341st.
Results have improved across all areas
THE World University Rankings is an international ranking that compares universities based on 17 indicators across five areas:
Teaching
Research Environment
Research Quality
Industry
International Outlook
Umeå University’s scores have increased over time across all five areas.
In this year’s ranking, the University scores particularly highly for Research Quality. Its results for Industry and International Outlook are also considerably higher than they were just over a decade ago.
Among Swedish higher education institutions, Umeå University is one of three to improve its position this year. The other two are Jönköping University and the Stockholm School of Economics.
Nationally, Umeå University ranks ninth among the 13 Swedish higher education institutions included in this year’s ranking.
