Access to CBCS services

CBCS provides a range of project support options and access to advanced instruments and microscopes.

Service Projects

We accept smaller service projects (lasting less than 2 weeks) on a first-come, first-served basis. Typical services include cell toxicity tests, limited organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry support, and more. Please reach out to any CBCS staff member to let us know how we can assist you.

Large Collaborative Projects

If you are interested in more extensive project support, we would be happy to discuss your research project and guide you through the application process. For more information on CBCS services as part of the national SciLifeLab infrastructure, please visit our external CBCS website.

Access to Instruments

CBCS Umeå offers a variety of instruments suitable for a wide range of assay applications. You can access these instruments through collaborative agreements or our open-access policy. Some instruments can be booked for personal use at a minor fee, provided you have received proper training. For access to CBCS instruments, please visit our Order Portal.

Plate readers

CLARIOstar Plus, BMG Labtech

CLARIOstar Plus is a multi-mode microplate reader with advanced LVF monochromators. Enhanced Dynamic Range combined with automatic focus technology makes assay optimization easier than ever.

Technical specification:
Temperature incubation, multiple shaking, well scan and reagent injectors. The detection modes available are fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, time-resolved fluorescence, AlphaScreen®/AlphaLISA®/AlphaPlex™, luminescence (flash and glow), UV-vis absorbance spectra, FRET, TR-FRET and BRET.

Synergy™ H4 plate reader, BioTek

The hybrid technology of the Synergy™ H4 combines the sensitivity of a filter-based system with the convenience of a monochromator to achieve a broad range of analysis applications.

Technical specification
Fluorescence intensity, time-resolved fluorescence, AlphaScreen®/AlphaLISA®, luminescence, UV-Visible absorbance, FRET, TR-FRET, BRET, well scanning and spectral scanning.

High Content Screening Microscope

ImageXpress® Micro Confocal, Molecular Devices

The ImageXpress® Confocal HT.ai High-Content Imaging System utilizes a seven-channel laser light s

ource with eight imaging channels to enable highly multiplexed assays while maintaining high throughput by using shortened exposure times. Water immersion objectives improve image resolution and minimize aberrations so scientists can see deeper into thick samples.

High Throughput Flow Cytometer

iQue®3, Sartorius

The iQue®3 flow cytometer has the fastest sample acquisition in the industry and the ability to handle 96-, 384- or 1536-well plates. This flow cytometer is flexible and suitable for a broad range of cell- and bead-based analysis. The Forecyt® Software included, delivers a fully integrated experience from data acquisition to plate-level analytics and multi-parametric data visualization.

Liquid handling

Biomek NX, BeckmanCoulter

Two automated liquid handling instruments equipped with pipettes in either 96- or 384-well plate format.

WellMate (Matrix)

Pipetting robot that handles volumes of 1 µl – 2 ml in 96- or 384-well plates.

ASSIST PLUS, INTEGRA Biosciences

Flexible and versatile pipette robot for liquid handling in cell lab.

Laboratory Facilities

Chemistry

CBCS Umeå operates in fully equipped chemistry labs, including a HPLC (Gilson & Shimadzu) system.

Cell- and Molecular Biology

CBCS Umeå has equipment for general molecular/microbiological and biochemical work. Incubators and labs for work with eukaryotic cells, bacteria, fungi and viruses are available. Screening can be performed on both BSL-1 and BSL-2 classified organisms.
