Steering and knowledge in Nomadic school and Sámi school 1956-2011

PhD project In the middle of the 20th century, there was a reform of the school system for the Sámi. Before 1962, the nomadic school attendance was compulsory for children belonging to reindeer husbandry families. The nomadic school system was a Swedish boarding school with limited educational scope. From 1962 the nomadic school system opened up for all Sámi groups. This study scrutinizes the steering of knowledge in both the nomadic- and Sámi school 1956–2011.

The study object is the curricula and syllabi for the Nomadic school and the Sámi school. The thesis examines the reform of the Sámi school system, its function, knowledge content and the social role of the education 1956–2011. The study is manly based on steering documents of the Nomadic- and Sámi school.
